"Miraku," which translates to "a wonderful destination for customers to indulge in exquisite cuisine", epitomises the essence of excellence. The restaurant takes great pride in upholding the revered Japanese culinary traditions, while seamlessly blending in modern refinements into their meticulously curated menu. Showcasing a commitment to utilising only the finest ingredients, including seasonal produce imported directly from Japan, the chefs at Miraku take pleasure in enchanting guests with a mesmerising symphony of flavours, presenting dishes that are as visually captivating as they are delectable.

Recently renovated, the restaurant reopened on 23 May 2023, offering a captivating dining experience that evokes the ambiance of a culinary performance. Guests have the opportunity to witness the masterful artistry of Japanese chefs firsthand, whether at the sizzling Teppanyaki counter or the exciting sushi bar.

Miraku has been a cherished establishment in Penang since it first opened its doors to the public in 2007. My daughter and I were thrilled to once again dine at the newly revitalised setting.

Upon our arrival, we were presented with a complimentary appetiser to awaken our taste buds as we perused the menu.

The teppanyaki lunch menu proved to be irresistible, offering a delightful selection of culinary delights. It included two omakase appetisers, a petite salad, a choice of main course, miso soup and a rice dish (or a suitable substitute). Captivated by the offerings, I made the decision to opt for the set featuring sea bass as the main, priced at RM62++.

The skilled Teppanyaki Chef of the day, Mr. Tomikawa crafted two tantalising meat appetisers. The sous vide duck breast, cooked to perfection, was topped with a red wine sauce. As for the sous vide roasted beef, it was sliced thinly and topped with a dollop of creamy homemade sauce. These mouth-watering creations were nothing short of exquisite.

The sea bass was delicious, offering a harmonious blend of flaky, moist and tender textures. Its crispy skin, brushed with some teriyaki sauce added an extra layer of sweetness. Nestled atop a bed of stir-fried vegetables, the sea bass revealed its delicate and mild profile with a subtle hint of sweetness.

After enjoying the sea bass, I was served a bowl of fragrant fried rice stir-fried with dried shrimps. The rice had a light umami flavour while maintaining a light and non-greasy quality. Accompanying the rice was a bowl of comforting and cloudy miso soup, which pleasantly surprised me with its delicate balance, steering clear of excessive saltiness.

The teppanyaki set proved to be satisfying, leaving me eager to return and explore the other enticing items from the sizzling grill.

My daughter made a brilliant choice by ordering the Ladies' Tenshin, a lunchtime specialty for ladies available on weekdays, priced at RM42.80++.

This set meal encompassed everything one would desire in a Japanese restaurant experience – sashimi, tempura, grilled fish, Chinmi and tamagoyaki served with rice, salad, miso soup, chawanmushi and pickled side dishes, concluding with a dessert. Her eyes sparkled with excitement as she took her time, relishing and savoring each item, thoroughly enjoying the feast before her.

Miraku proudly operates as a subsidiary of Texchem Resources Bhd (Texchem), a renowned Malaysian conglomerate listed on Bursa Malaysia. As a shareholder of Texchem, I was delighted to receive three complimentary vouchers in this year's annual report. One of the vouchers granted me the pleasure of enjoying a serving of sake at Miraku, which proved to be a wonderful beverage choice to accompany my meal.
