A lavish "Christmas Buffet by the Sea" at The Tamarra
It is the season to eat, drink and be merry among family and friends. With Christmas right around the corner, now is the perfect time to make your Christmas reservations. If you are planning to head out for a memorable Christmas dinner, look no further. "Christmas Buffet by the Sea" at The Tamarra offers truly mouth-watering selections of Christmas dishes such beef Wellington, traditional roasts, spit-roasted lamb, freshly-tossed pasta and an assortment of cheeses. Furthermore there are action stalls and a dessert corner with plenty of festive desserts including cendol ice cream, gingerbread cookies and more. Oh, what a jolly good feast!

What took me by surprise at the "Christmas Buffet by the Sea" is the alcohol free bar serving up salted-rimed margaritas, refreshing piña colada, zero alcohol shiraz from Australia and non-alcoholic sparkling beverages. Being a halal restaurant, this is something exciting and worth checking out.
I would recommend that you start the evening at the bar, sampling a glass or two of these lovely drinks. There is something about bubbles that just makes an evening feel celebratory. Also, try the thirst-quenching dark magenta dragon fruit punch.
Once you have settled on your drink of choice, head down to the starters and sample some inventive creations – scallops served with their shells topped with roasted tomato salsa, salmon with tangy mango salsa served in cone-shaped betel leaves and prawn skewers in shooter glasses with special homemade sauce.
At the salad bar, select a batch of your favourite items and top them with your desired dressing. There are four dressings to choose from. I love olives and there are two varieties available.
Other tempting salads include the crab fettuccine salad, the pomegranate and avocado salad, the sausage penne salad and refreshing fruit versions. These salads are brilliant to accompany the mains.
The carving stations offer tender beef Wellington complete with Yorkshire pudding, traditional roasts and whole spit-roasted lamb. Remember to top your cuts with accompanying sauces (cranberry, mint and gravy) served on the side, and if you feel adventurous, go for the pastel yellow lemak gravy for a strong local oomph. These heart-warming dishes make friendly get-togethers and rekindle family moments even more special.
Other sumptuous mains include grilled chicken with a creamy garlic sauce, pan-seared red snappers with a roasted capsicum sauce, slow braised roasted beef, baked mussels with a pomelo salsa, scalloped potatoes, grilled items (e.g., prawns, salmon, chicken wings), stir-fried Brussels sprouts, baby corn with French beans, garlic butter rice and Jollof rice.
Wait, there is more! Look out for the cheese platter, petit burgers with homemade beef patties, vegetarian quesadilla and even a section for kids with French fries, creamy mashed potatoes, baked beans, golden nuggets, hash browns and the all-time-favourite mac and cheese. Do not forget the soup and pasta corners.
Rediscover love, wonder and the magic of the festive season at the dessert table. There is plenty to make your heart sing. Tuck into a sweet ending – indulge in Christmas yule log cake, cheese cake, double chocolate chip muffins, red velvet chocolate cookies and yam crinkle cookies.
Keep some room for the fruit strudel, chocolate almond mousse tart, peach tart, fruit jellies, banoffees, raspberry mousse and apple pie. Kids will go crazy for luscious chocolate-dipped marshmallows, Christmas candy, various ice cream flavours, skewered fruits and more. An action stall serving ice kacang and cendol is also at hand. With choices aplenty, dessert lovers can enjoy themselves till their hearts' content.

The quality of the dishes is outstanding and the team has once again outdone themselves. It has been a long time since I have had such a grand Christmas feast, especially one filled with so many festive goodies. I was truly in for a celebration to remember, complete with a fireworks display and faux snow!
The Tamarra is located along the Millionaire's Row in Penang at Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah (formerly Northam Road), beside the Menara KWPS building. The stunning bungalow has an extensive beachfront lawn that houses the marquee tent to cater for the al fresco dining experience under the stars. Enjoy the cool sea breeze, a glorious sunset and some classic tunes as you savour scrumptious Christmas delights. A live band will keep you entertained with great music.
